2007 Sellwood/Portland Top Ten
by Jillian
10. Singing
for forty minutes before our first race of the morning. The back
half didn't exactly say it, but I could tell the loved every second of it.
9. Sitting on the water for forty minutes, while waiting to race. Ben needed
the vitamins to
wake him up
and put him in race mode. (I might add that there
was a sense of pleasure in knowing that we weren't the team holding up the race
day. We lined up without a hitch).
8. The constant reminders to
"stay out of the sun"
and "drink up". Poppa and
Annie really do love us just like a parent loves their child.
7. Hitting up the
beer
garden at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday AND becoming
best friends with Kai Kai Ka... they now love us b/c we purchased beer from them.
AND they inquired, "hey you guys are sponsored by Buffalo Gap?" What
that really means is "You guys rule! You have sponsors? Why didn't
B-Gap sponsor us?" Awesome.
6. Meeting Zambo on the water and giving them a great race start that left them in
the dust (that is, until they caught up with us).
5. The newbies coming out after not much practice and proving their worth.
Great job... thanks for hanging in there!
4. Seeing Poppa skip, yeah I'm pretty sure that he skipped, to the race site
knowing just how well we had been doing as a team. We sure made
Poppa and
Annie proud!
3. The 250 meter race. The intensity that was felt throughout the entire boat
for the full length of the race... suh-weet. Don't forget
Guts and Glory.
2. Hearing other teams grow excited to see us and yell, "ANNIE!" just so
that we could respond,
"MANIACS!"
They love us. They really do.
AND the number one race moment from this weekend.... Drum roll, please...
1. With her hat turned
backwards
and her hand in full form in front of her body,
hearing Chippy inquire, "What's the Shocker?"
Followed by, "The pink? What's that?"
Then the look on her face when it all made sense... priceless.
