Portland Dragonboat Rose Festival
June 12-13, 2005

Writeup is in the works. In the meantime, check out the gallery and full results. And here are a few Maniacs' stories:

"There is lane four's tail, (we take a stroke) the tail is now gone, there are two back benches (we take a stroke) gone!, two more benches:gone... until boys and girls, we have ourselves a race!  Timing could be compare to synchronized swimming (but cooler and not wearing a nose plug) once again, WOW! Hands, snaps, paddle placement and bends were beautiful." -Banana

"I was riding the bus to work today and just had a gigantic smile on my face. After watching the video last night I just have this weird disembodiement feeling. Was that us? Could our timing really look that good? Are we really powering in sync all the way to the final inch? Unreal. " -Sashimi

"...then, as it set in that i'd be wearing glitter - i'm thinking - i've been here before.  We've had the great race, but if we're lucky we can go out and race nearly as well, but no where in my wildest dreams did I think that you all had an extra gear - a sixth gear - in ya.  And the calm and quiet on that boat - as we paddled as champions - was truly inspiring.  Ben said it most eloquently, the whole reason we paddled for three months, (remember that massive rain-storm swamped practice!) all was worth it for those fleeting moments when we paddled as one.  which is exactly why i love this sport." - Sir Drinks A Lot

"It may sound weird but I've been waking up to Tom's voice in my head screaming "Come on Maniacs! It's anybody's race! We're neck and neck!" And I am overcome with this sense of urgency to paddle harder, but I have no paddle :-) " -Storm Trooper

"i have no voice and i can't tie my shoes. it was a great weekend. :)" -Benforcer

"Yes - I still have a voice to re-tell the story!!!" -1/2 pint
